SPOTLIGHT PROJECT #2
When Legacy Restorations was hired to renovate this nearly 90-year-old home in Guilford, MD, they knew they had to have a tight plan and management strategy from start to finish. The homeowners awarded Legacy the project after receiving independent referrals from friends and their architect, Thornhill Design Studio. Together with interior design firm Kirk Designs, the team created a floor plan to better utilize the available space. It included a remodeled, centralized kitchen with an island, a bar and beverage center, a den, and family room overhaul that involved adding windows and glass doors and relocating a fireplace.
“I love the built-in bar for entertaining. The beverage center is centrally located so that it serves the kitchen, breakfast room, den and patio.”
The project was not without challenges. The floor under the kitchen had started to slope due to deteriorating joists. Repairing the floor meant tearing out the entire kitchen, but it also meant an opportunity to completely remodel the space. Legacy’s crew sealed off the work area from the rest of the home, both for safety reasons and to minimize dust. They helped the homeowners set up a temporary kitchen in the basement.
“The biggest challenge was making all of the decisions and visualizing what it would look like. Legacy set up bi-weekly meetings to review timelines, finish selections, issues and solutions. These meetings were a great project management tool. We stayed on track as much as possible because of their great project management.”
The team scheduled follow-up meetings at six and twelve months to give the homeowners a chance to live in the remodeled space, and then address any issues that came up. Good follow-up goes a long way towards client satisfaction!
